An advanced design is increasingly in demand with homeowners everywhere. Made to fit precisely, our strong, secure windows offer optimum energy efficiency and easy cleaning features with tilt-in sashes. Our windows are manufactured with traditional craftsmanship and quality that stands alone in the new construction and replacement window market.
Windows come in many shapes, sizes and types. It may be hard to determine what is best for your home. There are several things that should be considered: the style of the home, what the window’s purpose is, and the budget. Additionally, you need to consider security (is the window on the first floor, front of the house, etc.) and how easy the window will be to maintain.
Windows are either fixed or operable. Fixed windows are great for letting in light and exposing views. They do not provide any ventilation, as they are stationary units mounted within a frame. Some of the choices for fixed windows are octagonal, half-circle or ellipse windows. Operable windows, on the other hand, open to allow for ventilation.
Types of Operable Windows
There are several different types of operable windows:
Sliding Windows: As the name implies, they have fixed panels and panels that slide in tracks to allow the window to open. These work well at sealing in energy.
Double-Hung Windows: These windows have an upper, outside sash that slides down and a lower, inside sash that slides up. There are usually apprentice that is hidden that helps lift and lower the sash. If only one sash slides, the window is called vertical sliding or single-hung.
Casement Windows: This type of window is operated by a hand crank that swings the sash outward or inward. These windows catch the breeze, thus offering excellent ventilation.
Awning Windows: These windows are similar to casement windows. However, they are top-hinged and tilt out at the bottom. While they offer an unobstructed view and reasonably good security, they only offer partial ventilation.
Double-Hung Windows
A double-hung window is built around convenience. The design allows for an upper, outside sash that slides down paired with a lower, inside sash that slides upward. Essentially, you can open both the top and the bottom to allow more airflow and sunlight into the room. It’s a common option for residential window replacement.
Casement Windows
You’ll most often see a casement window in a kitchen setting. The window is designed to open outward from one side, from the hinge attached to the side of the window. Due to the way the window opens, however, you cannot have a screen in place. This is a benefit to many who want increased airflow.
Bay Windows
A bay window provides an elegant look to your home. The interior allows for extra space in the form of a convenient nook. The exterior juts out from the house for a classic look. With up to three windows facing the exterior, the extra sunlight and view will boost the aesthetics and value of your home while making the family happy.
Bow Windows
A bow window is similar to a bay window in that the design juts out from the house in a unique manner. The difference here is that a bow window has four or five openings, usually thinner windows, to allow increased sunlight and airflow.
